May 4th-May 8th

We finished Miss Representation.
Please write a reflection/response to the film.

We are going to read segments of a book titled Ophelia Speaks.

I'm going to write a reading schedule on this blog. The full list is below as is the list that has your specific selections on it. Please stick to it and be ready to discuss when you come to class each day. You only have a few more assignments this semester.

  1. Each topic has multiple pieces of writing in it. You will select the best piece of writing (in your opinion) and share it with the class. We will then read that selection and discuss it in class. The discussion of the pieces will be graded, so make sure you are here. If you are absent, then you need to make up the graded discussion by writing a reflection of the readings. The reflection will be two pages double spaced.
  2. You will write your own creative pieces that fall under the reading topics you select. You will also share these autobiographical pieces with the class. You can write poems, journals, essays, vignettes, short stories, essays... the list could go on and on. Make sure you include sensory details!

April 27th-May 1st

1. We started Miss Representation. If you missed it (and a few of you did), then please make sure you come see me to watch the 40 minutes that we watched in class.

2. Please log your media consumption this week. DUE: MAY 5TH

3. We had testing this week, so things were a little "off" to say the least. I look forward to at least a semblance of normalcy next week. I'll see you on Tuesday!

April 14th-16th

It's been a while since I've posted "happenings" in our class, so I thought I should give you an update this week.

1. Kristen Plummer came in and had lots of conversations with us about domestic abuse and sexual assault. We also discussed language and name calling associated with men and women.

2. One assignment you were expected to complete is to find 20 photos/images that define beauty to you.

3. We watched a few videos based on beauty/photoshopping in class. You need to find an article and/or video that focuses on this topic and post it to your blog. You also need to comment on the video.

March 13th-19th

Today you'll work on these Growing Up Questions with your classmates. The idea is to get some practice sharing AND (more importantly) using garage band.

Go to the storycorps website and look at the section labeled parents.
Use these questions to guide a conversation with one of your parents (or both, or a different role model/parental figure in your life).
Make sure you record it!
The recording is due on Monday the 23rd.

The reflection is also due on Monday the 23rd.
The reflection may include a response to any/all of the following:
  1. Discuss what made you comfortable.
  2. Discuss what made you nervous.
  3. Discuss what you learned from doing this.
  4. Discuss what you wish you had asked but didn't have the guts to.
  5. Discuss the technical aspects of completing the projects. What worked? What would you do differently?

March 5th

How do you feel you are perceived?
How have your perceptions of women changed as you've grown?
What inspires your confidence?

Use the answers to these questions to guide a blog post about this subject.
